The contained polyglutamic acid (0.5%), also known as PGA, is a natural polymer that is obtained by fermentation of soybeans using a biotechnological process. It is characterized by its extraordinary effect as a humectant in the skin. Polyglutamic acid forms a protective film on the surface of the skin to minimize moisture loss and increase the skin's ability to retain moisture (depot effect). Thanks to these water-binding properties, PGA can store up to four times more moisture than hyaluronic acid, as proven in scientific studies. This immediately makes the skin appear smoother and more elastic. In addition, PGA can inhibit the activity of the enzyme hyaluronidase, which reduces the natural hyaluronic acid content, and thus stabilize and increase the content of hyaluronic acid in the skin. The combination of both active ingredients therefore has a synergistic moisturizing effect. In addition, PGA stimulates the natural moisturizing factors, known in science as Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), and increases their own production in order to improve the skin's own hyaluronic acid synthesis.
With age and under the influence of harmful environmental factors, the skin loses its ability to synthesize hyaluronic acid itself. To counteract this process, which can begin as early as the age of twenty, the powerful peptide in the extracellular matrix stimulates the skin's own synthesis of hyaluronan to increase tissue firmness.
