WE LOVE-HONEY Stem cell technology gives a new home to eight bee colonies. If there was only one BABOR bee, her name would be Bella – the beautiful one. In the Eifel near the headquarters in Aachen, however, live 400,000 bees. They have found a home on our former wild service plantation.More than 15 years ago, the BABOR BEAUTY GROUP wanted to harvest a valuable raw material in the Eifel: wild service berries. Of all domestic fruits, wild service berries have the highest vitamin C content. A perfect supplier of active ingredients for the expert skin care of the BABOR brand. Since wild service berries are rare, the stock should be protected, and the extracts harvested on a plantation. Over the years, thanks to a cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute, it became possible to obtain the valuable ingredients in the laboratory with the help of plant stem cell technology. The tree population and its fruits were no longer needed as a supplier of raw materials. What happened to the wild service plantation? In 2020, BABOR BEAUTY GROUP turned it into a bioreserve. Shortly thereafter, the company made it home to eight bee colonies. Today, bees are a visible symbol of sustainable cosmetic production that protects the biodiversity of our planet.Near the bioreserve the company also is planting the BABOR forest. On around 100,000 square meters, more trees grow here every year – in the end there will be 30,000. The bee colonies and the BABOR forest are small parts in the sustainability strategy of the BABOR BEAUTY GROUP. Would you like to know more about the sustainability strategy, please click here.
